The Round Table Podcast
Round Table Podcast, 13-20 June 2012
You have to admire the efforts of presenter Dave Robison to advance the cause of creative writing. Each week they invite a special guest to talk about the process of writing, or else run workshops of their own, encouraging listeners to get up and start creating for themselves.
In The Roundtable Goes to Balticon Robison reports on his visit to Balticon 46, a convention attracting writers, publishers, editors and others involved in the process of literary creation and dissemination. Presented with a mixture of wild enthusiasm and sage wisdom, this two-part episode contained extracts from a series of interviews conducted at the convention with writers of different genres and generations - Bryan Lincoln, Nathan Lowell, Norm Sherman, Justin Macumber, Jared Axelrod.
Some of the responses were extremely funny, but the thrust was the same: to succeed at being a writer takes both talent and dedication, plus a determination to stick at it, regardless of what anyone might say about one's work. Perseverance might not be a guarantee of success, but it goes a long way towards achieving one's dreams, whether personal or professional.
